Right, the meddling around with this picture stops! Ignore the date signed as I've been working on this for over a week since I thought it was originally done.

The character is Vaznev, a tiefling duskblade from Peter Anckorn's webcomic By the Book over on Smackjeeves*: [link]

The author has been asking for guest art for an intermission and since I already had a pop at this character last year [link] I thought I'd give her another shot. His art is very colourful and vibrant, with some great character designs and perhaps with some slightly risqué humour, but overall it's a funny parody of the fantasy/D&D genre.

This pic was originally a blank anatomy sketch of a generic two handed swordsman, later filled in to match the character. I scanned that and did some digital lines over it, blocked some colours and worked from there. Still not sure if I like my cel shading, so I just kept picking at it and eventually went the next level up, and to be honest it looks much better because of it. So not exactly the quick digital pic I was aiming for! The final delay was the composition. The original sketch shows everything except the feet and leaves a lot of empty space, so plenty of attempts at cropping and tilting followed as well as many questions such as "does she look more dynamic leaning backwards or forwards?", "how much leg or tail can I include?", "is that damn sword curved right?" etc. It could go on forever so I had to make a stop somewhere!

*Webcomic hosting site, on which I have had an account since early 2006! My own comics are long gone but I still follow a few others (and even some of the authors on dA too).
